Compare/Agent platforms

Getting to one working agent is not the hard part any more.

Agent builders, automation platforms and the products that sell finished AI workers have become genuinely good.

Stated fairly

For one job, buying a finished agent usually beats building one.

If you need customer support triage solved this quarter and a vertical product does exactly that, buy it. Being the platform underneath is not an argument for doing everything yourself.

Where they are stronger

  • Time to a working agent, which is days rather than weeks, and hard to beat from a general layer
  • Depth in their vertical, with years of edge cases already handled in the product
  • An interface built for one job, rather than a general surface you configure toward it
  • Benchmarks, references and a deployment pattern proven at other companies like yours
  • Clear accountability. One vendor owns the outcome, which some organisations rightly prefer

Where it leaves you

  • The floor underneath is usually assumed rather than supplied: separately revocable credentials per surface, roles across every transport, container isolation, a gated deploy, an audit trail, an air-gapped install
  • Agent number two starts over. Nothing the first one learned is available to it, because the learning lives in the vendor's product
  • They typically need to be the agent. A customer's own harness pointed at your systems is not a first-class client
  • Reach is bounded by the connector list, and the systems that hold the operating truth are usually not on it
  • Every one of them lands with engineers embedded alongside you. Few are designed for those people to leave

They sell you an outcome. This sells you the capability the outcomes get built on.

slower to feel good, and different in what it leaves behind

The structural difference

This does not need to be the agent.

Your people are already using Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and chat, and they are not going to stop because a platform would prefer they did.

That has a consequence worth stating plainly: a vertical agent product you already bought can usually sit on top of this rather than compete with it, reaching your systems through the same governed door as everything else.

The question nobody asks in the first meeting

Who is operating this in year two?

Every serious vendor in this market, including the very large ones, delivers with engineers embedded alongside your team.

For a firm whose revenue is the embedded team, the engagement ending is a problem to be managed rather than the goal.

The rails that make the withdrawal possible →

Bring the agent you already have.

If something is already running, the useful exercise is pointing it at this layer and seeing what changes about what it can reach and what it leaves behind.
